“I am writing to you to thank you for all your support over the past year. You have helped me to achieve good results in my exams and I am extremely appreciative of this. I will continue to work hard to make myself and everyone proud. Wize up has changed my life by redirecting me onto the right path and helping me to visualise my full potential. Thank you to every single member of for helping me along the way, you will not be forgotten and I love you all!”
Year 11 student in 2018“On 21st July 2016 was something I never thought would be in reach, growing up where I have faced many obstacles which gave me the strength to handle being told you have 'Chronic Kidney disease'.
A disease that attacks your kidneys resulting in 'Transplantation', which has given me a strong heart to handle anything that is thrown at me I believe I can achieve anything I want and put my mind too. I could not be happier to say after years of being told you won't go far in life, told to be given up on for being kicked out of school and being a centre kid, I can say anything is achievable with the right attitude and nothing but passion, not matter what mistakes you make, no matter if your a centre kid you can prove people wrong as I have. Now I have left University with a BA Hons Degree in Media Communications.
To my family thank you for believing in me, my mother who raised me as a single blind Mother you taught me stand up and fight against all irrelevant comments and to be strong and to Wize Up thank you for teaching me what is it to be a Successful Woman.
To my organ donor as you are the reason I am able to celebrate this achievement thank you for the gift of life and the bravery to give me back my passion and heart💕 ”
Ayan – Former year 11 student 2010“Last day at Wize Up where do I begin,it's been a madness/roller Costa I have been through so much and felt like I wouldn't find a place where I fit in and can be myself until I came Wize Up. Wize-up is a family a family where they will never forget those who have left. Once you have been apart of Wize Up unfortunately your still apart of it I've found people who mean the world to me in so many different ways I will never forget anyone. Time goes by so fast just the other day I felt like I was leaving primary ready to go in secondary now reality is going to kick in. I'm really going to miss you all I want to thank everyone who has supported me through the worse and still continue to stand by me I'm so great full to have people like that come in my life in wize-up not going to lie I've had my UP's and my DOWN's , but that is apart of the circle of life and experience at Wize Up I've left Wize Up knowing who I am and what I've done will not set me apart of what I want to become and accomplish I feel like Wize Up itself and especially the staff have made me change as a person for the better and once again I'm so great full words can't describe I feel like I have done a lot of growing up and matured then when I started. I've also learnt certain actions aren't the solution to all situations I'm going to miss you all , I hope I do Wize Up proud. ”
Terryanne – Year 11 student 2016“The past month I have attended Wize Up and it has been the biggest lesson of my life. It has taught me that the grass is not always greener on the other side and there are always people willing to help you when others have given up!
It's the biggest blessing in disguise and teaches you to be persistent in your education, it motivates you to be the best you possibly can be.
Wize Up supports your decisions and if you wish to return to mainstream, they ensure provisions are put in place to help that. I wouldn't have wished to meet nicer people to help me get back into school.
So thank you Wize Up for every ounce of help they have given me, it's helped me grow up and mature and contributed to the person I am today!”
Miss H Durham – Year 11 student“Wize Up school is about respect, we never put down and never neglect. In here we are all part of a team, we work hard to live our dream.
Wize-Up school is where we are all treated the same. To get the best results is where we aim. No matter what we want to get far. To reach the top so we are the star.
Every day we come in we use our knowledge, so we can go somewhere an example is college. In this school we attend, we use our brain. Because those GCSE's is what we want to gain.
Although we go through some rough patches, everybody in here still attaches. Our head teacher is amazing, her name is Lorretta, in this school, you couldn't get better!”
Miss A Flynn – Year 11 student“I started Wize up on 21st April 2008 and think I have done really well because Wize Up has given me all the help I have asked for and have gotten me into college to do catering which I really enjoy! Wize Up can help other young people because they care about their future. When I started I was a nightmare now that has changed, Wize up has helped me realise I can get far in life. I complete all my work and my goal is to become a chef. I like being at Wize Up because I get more help here then normal school, you do not get shouted at and you are treated fairly.”
Leon – Year 11 student“Wize Up has helped me a lot, when I came here back in year 8 I couldn't spell, read or even write but now I can do all of that. Wize Up could help others because it has helped me because I didn't believe in myself! My experience at Wize Up is it has helped me realise that I can get somewhere in life. What I most like about being here is that they always help me and I enjoy coming here for that reason.”

As part of our ongoing development Wize Up sought the views of our commissioners during the summer of 2017. Please see below a collation of the replies we received from 19 of our commissioners:
“The John Roan School has been working in partnership with Wize Up since it was established. The provision has provided an outstanding service to the school and has enhanced and created new life opportunities for some of our most challenging students. The students have gained in confidence and have become more enthusiastic and have re-engaged with the world of education, training and employment. The outcomes for our students have been greatly improved as a result. The environment is caring and welcoming and it provides the perfect base for students who need that extra bit of attention and guidance.”
Assistant Headteacher – Local Secondary School“I have worked with the head of Wize Up for 5 years now when I was a Deputy Head in Greenwich and was very impressed with the quality of service that was provided by Lorretta. Since Wize Up has opened I have continued this working relationship due to curriculum on offer for the students and the high level of student support that they deliver. I initially placed students there who were on a long fixed term exclusion and have continued to use the provision to support young people in my current role as Head of Behaviour Service in Bromley LA for young people who need an alternative education provision.
The level of care, support and guidance from Head (Lorretta) and each member of staff is exemplary and the main reason why I have continued to use the provision. I have been working with young people who have challenging behaviour for over 10 years in 4 separate local authorities and have come across many different types of alternative settings but Wize Up for me stands out as by far the best and most professional provision.”
Wize Up actually care about each individual student that attends and look at the holistic needs and the barriers hindering the student's progress but crucially work with parents, professionals and school based staff to find positive solutions that are sustainable. Students who I have placed there have requested to stay there rather than return or be moved to other provisions which, is evidence in itself. I would have no hesitation in recommending Wize Up to young people, parents or fellow professionals.”

During parents evening 2016-2017 all parents who attended where asked to complete questionnaire , please click below the results from these questionnaires:
“My son has autistic spectrum disorder, which made him isolate himself from the company of others. Wize Up has helped him to progress to the stage he is at now, it was a great experience I found Wize Up supportive by helping me to understand his condition that bit more. He was provided with one to one support at home and school by his teacher which helped bring him out of himself and developed his social skills.
My son really enjoyed being at Wize Up he got on well with all the staff and is now at college and doing really well and I would like to thank Wize Up for all of their help and support!”
Mrs Heal – parent“Friendly staff always there to help you, they have done more for Leon then other schools have done. When Leon joined Wize Up it was the best thing for him he was so happy, being there has built his self esteem and helped him very much with his education. He was a tear way at his previous school but Wize Up have turned him around changing his whole life. They have done wonders for him he is a totally different child. I wish a lot of other children experienced what Wize Up offers, all it needs is a bit of time and TLC and that's what they have given Leon.”
